ETFGI reports the ETFs industry in Europe gathered net inflows of US$15.07 billion in April 2023
LONDON — May 18, 2023 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm covering trends in the global ETFs ecosystem, reported today that ETFs industry in Europe gathered net inflows of US$15.07 billion during April, bringing year-to-date net inflows to US$57.62 billion. During the month, assets invested in the ETFs industry in Europe increased by 2.0% from US$1.55 trillion at the end of March to US$1.58 trillion, according to ETFGI's April 2023 European ETFs and ETPs industry landscape insights report, the monthly report which is part of an annual paid-for research subscription service. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)
Highlights
- ETFs industry in Europe gathered net inflows of $15.07 Bn in April.
- YTD net inflows in 2023 of $57.62 Bn are third highest on record, after YTD net inflows of $78.84 Bn in 2021 and YTD net inflows of $66.83 in 2022.
- 7th month of consecutive net inflows.
- Assets of $1.58 Tn invested in ETFs industry in Europe at the end of April.
- Assets have increased 11.5% YTD in 2023, going from $1.42 Tn at end of 2022 to $1.58 Tn.
“The S&P 500 increased by 1.56 % in April and was up by 9.17% in 2023. Developed markets excluding the US increased by 2.45% in April and were up 10.41% in 2023. Switzerland (up 6.41%) and United Kingdom (up 5.28%) saw the largest increases amongst the developed markets in April. Emerging markets decreased by 0.50% during April and were up 2.38% in 2023. Turkey (down 4.79%) and Thailand (down 4.69%) saw the largest decreases amongst emerging markets in April.” According to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner, founder, and owner of ETFGI.
Europe ETFs and ETPs asset growth as at the end of April 2023
The ETFs industry in Europe had 2,949 products, with 11,906 listings, assets of $1.581 trillion, from 99 providers listed on 29 exchanges in 24 countries at the end of April.
During April, ETFs in Europe gathered net inflows to $15.07 billion. Equity ETFs gathered net inflows of
$8.10 Bn April, bringing YTD net inflows to $31.15 Bn, lower than the $45.54 Bn YTD net inflows in 2022. Fixed income ETFs reported net inflows of $6.89 Bn during April, bringing YTD net inflows in 2023 to $22.36 Bn, higher than the $11.31 Bn YTD net inflows in 2022. Commodities ETFs/ETPs reported net outflows of $22 Mn during April, bringing YTD net inflows to $1.66 Bn, much lower than the $9.04 Bn in YTD net inflows in 2022. Active ETFs attracted net inflows of $145 Mn over the month, gathering YTD net inflows of $2.32 Bn, much higher than the $675 Mn in net inflows YTD in 2022.
Substantial inflows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered $12.10 Bn during April. Amundi MSCI World III (AHYQ GY) gathered $3.61 Bn, the largest individual net inflow.
