ETFGI reports record assets of US$ 51.63 billion invested in ETFs and ETPs listed in Middle East and Africa at the end of November 2021
LONDON — December 31, 2021 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm covering trends in the global ETFs/ETPs ecosystem, reported today record assets of US$ 51.63 billion invested in ETFs and ETPs listed in Middle East and Africa at the end of November 2021. ETFs and ETPs listed in Middle East and Africa gathered net inflows of US$1.57 billion during November, bringing year-to-date net inflows to US$448 million. Assets invested in the Middle East and Africa ETFs/ETPs industry have increased by 1.4% from US$50.93 billion in October 2021 to US$51.63 billion, according to ETFGI's November 2021 Middle East and Africa ETFs and ETPs industry landscape insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)

- Record assets of $51.63 Bn invested in Middle East and Africa ETFs and ETPs industry at end November.
- Assets increased 13.8% YTD in 2021 going from $45.38 Bn at end of 2020 to $51.63 Bn.
- ETFs and ETPs listed in Middle East and Africa gathered net inflows of $1.57 billion during November.
- Year-to-date net inflows are US$448 million
- $909 Mn in net inflows gathered in the past 12 months.
“Due to the growing threat of a new COVID variant Omicron, the S&P 500 declined 0.69% in November, however, the index is up 23.18% year to date. Developed markets, excluding the US, experienced a fall of 4.94% in November. Israel (down 1.03%) and the US (down 1.47%) experienced the smallest losses among the developed markets in November, while Luxembourg suffered the biggest loss of 16.90%. Emerging markets declined 3.53% during November. United Arab Emirates (up 8.15%) and Chile (up 5.51%) gained the most, whilst Turkey (down 13.72%) and Poland (down 11.95%) witnessed the largest declines.” According to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner, founder and owner of ETFGI.
Middle East and Africa ETFs and ETPs asset growth as at the end of November 2021
At the end of November 2021, the Middle East and African ETF/ETP industry had 775 ETFs/ETPs, with 823 listings, assets of US$52 Bn, from 53 providers listed on 16 exchanges in 14 countries.
Equity ETFs/ETPs gathered net inflows of $942 Mn, bringing year to date net inflows to $285 Mn, which is higher than the $1.52 Bn in net outflows equity products had YTD in 2020. Fixed Income ETFs/ETPs saw net inflows of $14 Mn, bringing year to date net inflows to $127 Mn, which is lower than the $565 Mn in net inflows fixed income products had attracted for the corresponding period in 2020. Commodities ETFs/ETPs suffered net outflows of $32 Mn, bringing year to date net outflows to $500 Mn, which is less than the $610 Mn in net outflows commodities products had suffered for the year to November 2020. Active ETFs/ETPs reported net inflows of $495 Mn during November 2021, bringing year to date net inflows to $366 Mn, which is much lower than the $2.78 Bn in net inflows active products had reported for the year to November 2020.
Substantial inflows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered $1.24 Bn during November. Etfmad Afarin Persian – Acc (FATF1) gathered $352 Mn had the largest individual net inflow.
